The neighbourhood has been home to multiple incarnations of film and television studios from 1914 to the present day. EastEnders and Strictly Come Dancing are filmed at Elstree, and the Big Brother house - dismantled in 2018 - nestled in this commuter belt suburb for nearly two decades.

'Borehamwood’ was a map made available in 2008 on the HTML/text-based mass multiplayer game Urban Dead - in which participants navigate the perils of a quarantined city district during the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse.
